What is Auto Paint & Refinishing?

Auto paint and refinishing at Drive Auto Body uses the Axalta paint system with computerized OEM color matching to factory paint codes. We handle single-panel touch-ups, multi-panel blends, full repaints, and custom paint work — all backed by a lifetime warranty. Whether your car is a daily commuter or a weekend show car, the paint job will match factory standards and stay that way for as long as you own the vehicle.

Our Process

Every paint job at Drive Auto Body follows a documented multi-step process. The difference between a great paint job and a noticeable one comes down to prep, color matching, and environmental control — all of which we obsess over.

  1. 1

    Surface Assessment & Prep

Sanding, repair of imperfections, dent removal as needed. The paint job is only as good as the surface underneath.

  2. 2

    Computerized OEM Color Matching

We pull your factory paint code and computer-match the formulation. For older vehicles where the original color has shifted, we tint to match the actual current finish.

  3. 3

    Masking & Booth Prep

Detailed masking of trim, glass, sensors, and adjacent panels. The paint booth is climate-controlled and dust-filtered.

  4. 4

    Primer & Base Coat

Etching primer, surface primer, base coat. Each layer flashes (cures) before the next is applied.

  5. 5

    Color & Clear Coat

Axalta color in 2–3 coats depending on color and substrate. Clear coat in 2–3 coats for depth and protection.

  6. 6

    Curing & Wet Sanding

Full cure in the booth, then wet sanding to remove imperfections and level the surface.

  7. 7

    Buffing & Polishing

Three-stage compound and polish for showroom finish. Final inspection under multiple light sources.

Auto Paint & Refinishing FAQ

How does Drive Auto Body match my car's paint color?

We pull your vehicle's factory paint code (usually on a sticker in the door jamb or under the hood) and computer-match the formulation using Axalta's color database. For older vehicles where the original paint has aged or oxidized, we tint to match the actual current finish under multiple light sources. The result is a blend that's invisible to the eye.

Will the paint match if my car is older?

Yes — with proper tinting. Factory paint shifts with sun exposure over time. We sample the actual current color of your vehicle and tint our base accordingly so the new panel matches what's there now, not what came off the factory line.

How long does a paint job take?

Single-panel touch-up: 2–3 days. Multi-panel blend: 4–7 days. Full repaint: 7–10 days. We give you a written timeline at drop-off and update at every milestone.

Is the paint warrantied?

Yes. Every paint job at Drive Auto Body carries a lifetime warranty for as long as you own the vehicle. If the paint peels, fades unevenly, or develops a defect, we fix it free of charge.

Do you do custom paint work?

Yes. We do custom colors, custom finishes, full color changes, and weekend show-car paint work. Get an estimate in person — custom work is quoted case-by-case.

How long until I can wash my car after paint?

Wait at least two weeks before any pressure wash, automatic carwash, or wax. Hand wash with mild soap is fine after a week. Avoid parking under trees (sap) for the first 30 days while the paint fully cures.

Can you fix peeling clear coat?

Yes. Clear coat failure (peeling, hazing, milky appearance) requires sanding the affected panel down to base color, then re-shooting clear. We can spot-repair small areas or refinish entire panels depending on extent.
